Digitizing files from the National Archives in Kansas City
If you already know what you're searching for, that's great news! To acquire your desired records promptly, I recommend reaching out to a knowledgeable staff member at the National Archives based in Kansas City. By contacting kansascity.archives@nara.gov, you can receive specialized assistance from experienced archivists who will guide you in locating the specific information you seek. When you’ve found what you’re looking for, that’s where I come in. Contact me with a file number, inquiry number, NAID, or as much identifying information as you have, and I will have a quote ready for you within a business day.
The National Archives at Kansas City is one of the largest repositories of federal documents outside of the Washington, DC, area. Most documents are stored in off-site Federal Records Centers in secure, climate controlled underground storage caves throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. As such, documents will be delivered to the central Pershing Road facility for viewing on a weekly basis. As the archives experiences more research volume, delivery to the research room can be delayed. Contact me for an updated estimate.
Once your files have been delivered to the research room, I will work quickly to digitize the documents into high quality searchable PDF files, and send them to you for you to research and review at your leisure.
The Harry S. Truman Presidential Library
The Harry S. Truman Presidential Library in Independence, Missouri maintains excellent online finding aids for both the personal papers of figures associated with the Truman administration and the official records of the administration itself. Most clients come to me having already identified the boxes and folders they need through those finding aids — if you haven't explored them yet, they're a good place to start.
Because the Library's collections are stored on site, materials can generally be retrieved the same day. I work exclusively with textual records; the Library's own staff handles audiovisual requests.
I have experience with both the personal papers collections and the official administrative records, and work there regularly alongside my digitization work at the National Archives at Kansas City.
